Research Education for Undergraduates Program
The goals of CHN's REU program are:- increasing the awareness of the importance of science and technology;
- motivating students, particularly women and under-represented minorities, to become interested in and better prepared for careers in science, math, engineering, and technology;
- preparing students for careers in research and in manufacturing related to nanotechnology.
The students are in the laboratories from early June to mid August. Students, as individuals or in collaboration with other undergraduates, conduct research under the guidance of their advisors, other professors, graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers. Additionally, the student participates in a CHN joint-University professional development seminars, tours, and social activities.
Benefits to Undergraduates
Overall, the benefits to the students include exposure to the developing field of nanomanufacturing and the enhancement of their research and presentation skills. This also provides increased education to the future workforce in nanoscience and technology.
