REU 2005

Summer 2005 REU program

Sixteen undergraduates participated in CHN's 10 week summer 2005 research experiences for undergraduates (REU) program. The students were in the laboratories from early June to mid August. Students, as individuals or in collaboration with other undergraduates, conducted research under the guidance of their advisors, other professors, graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers. Research projects included both a literature review of relevant material and experiments related to CHN research. At the end of the program the undergraduates presented the results of their research at a joint session. The students' research projects are listed below.

Lady Jimenez presented this research as a poster at the ACS Rubber Division Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA, in November, 2005.

In addition, most undergraduate students attended the 2005 NSF Site Visit at NEU and the student session at the Third New England Nanomanufacturing Workshop (June, 2005). The Workshop event consisted of a half-day poster session and a half-day workshop "AIR: Learning to Manage and Process Ethical Challenges in the Workplace" presented by Donna Qualters and Perrin Cohen (NEU).

REUs for 2005-2006 Academic Year

Some summer 2005 REU participants continued funded research into the 2005-2006 academic year (as indicated by the asterisks), whereas other students started new projects. Many of these students were funded from an NSF REU Supplement. These students generally worked part-time although some students at NEU performed this research as a cooperative learning experience.
